My name is Sonny Sanborn, and I teach all the social studies classes at Archway. This is my ninth year here, and I have been teaching for 14 years total.
I am a dad of five kids – 1 in high school, 2 in middle school, 1 in elementary, and one three year old, a daughter who my wife (of almost 20 years) and I adopted in March of 2016. We were her foster parents for 18 months before we adopted her– she was the second child in state care for whom we’ve had the privilege of providing a safe/loving home, and we are still currently licensed to be foster parents, so there may be more!
I love teaching at Archway. I know most teachers will say this, but I mean it with all sincerity - I learn more from the students than they learn from me. In fact, I've already learned much from Archway students as they've shared their experiences in class and in casual conversation. I am, almost hourly, reminded of why we all are here - to support the students' recovery and challenge and prepare them for a life after high school.
The students will be challenged to think in my class. There are no easy answers in history/government/politics/economics, and this class goes way beyond memorizing dates or names. We analyze and evaluate issues from many different perspectives, and we have fun doing that!
I look forward to another great year at Archway.
